It's a BABY!

So, the appointment was really fast!
Having the first appointment of the day equals no waiting time!
The ultrasound was fun.
Apparently the babies can feel/sense the sound waves coming through and it makes them wiggle.
Most of the time we were trying to get a good picture of the lips which was difficult because the baby was sucking on its thumb.
The little smudge in front of its nose is a hand. :D

But after finding all necessary parts to be in working order, we found that...

It's a GIRL!!!

It's kind of difficult to tell, but the sonographer was 85% sure that it's a girl.
I'd call that pretty good odds.

Peter was elated!
Apparently he had secretly wanted a little girl, but didn't want to admit it.
That makes me happy.
And of course I'm super excited too!
I love baby girls!
Peter said it best, "I wouldn't have known what to do with a boy!"
So now it's time to buy things and start sorting through names... what fun!!!

Place Your Bets!!!

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY!!!
It's the day we've waited four months for!
Tomorrow morning Peter and I will look at our baby and hopefully
find out if it's a boy or a girl!!!

Here are the pictures from our first ultrasound at 14 weeks:

BABY!!!!
We think the profile is better in this one:
And there's its little arm:
So now that we are between 19 and 20 weeks, we should be able to determine the baby's gender.
So, what do you think folks?
Will our first child be a little
Boy or Girl?
Peter refuses to guess because he doesn't want to hurt the child's feelings before it's born. He doesn't care either way and doesn't want our baby to feel like a disappointment from the get-go!

I generally tend to think of the baby as a girl, unless I'm in pain. I figure that a sweet little baby girl wouldn't hurt her mama!

So now I'm interested to know what you think.
Do you have any method or reasoning to determining a baby's gender before birth?

Santa Cruz in Februany

We went to Santa Cruz this weekend, the last weekend of Februany (that's right, ANY foot long* for just 5 bucks).
* excludes premium sandwiches

Sorry we haven't posted in so long, but we have lots of sweet pictures for you of our little excursion to the coast!

It took forever to make the 30 mile trip because we took the long, scenic route along highway 9.
The road was like this the whole way:

Melanie womaned the camera while I drove

California has weird trees and lots of moss

The view from the top of the hill was spectacular

I decided that we should live in one of the towns in the woods.
They have everything you need.
 - a general store
 - a pool
 - a dentist
 - and plenty of bars
They even have toy trains in the woods!

We finally made it to the beach after driving circles around the "boardwalk."
We must have passed the carnival 4 times.

There is a really cool rail line that runs through Santa Cruz and right next to the Boardwalk.

Seals live under the warf and Mel had never seen a seal in the wild before.
Too bad I didn't take a picture :(

We also saw a lighthouse which is a surfing museum now

Careful, this guy is closer than he looks!

We left the coast just as the sun went down

Moving

While packing has been slow all week long, today I was incredibly productive! I emptied almost every drawer and cabinet--the kitchen still remains--but you really can't tell that I did anything just by looking at it.
Our house still feels cluttered and like there's so much to be done,
but really that's just because the furniture has not moved.
So right now, I think I'm more on top of packing than I have been in any previous move.
Progress!
I'm really excited to move though.
San Jose winter is like early spring in Utah! What a wonderful reprieve!
Wish us luck as we finish packing!

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!

And yesterday, I listened to our baby's heartbeat!
Peter couldn't be there. He was so disappointed when I told him about it, but he still has a lot of work to get done before we move to San Jose.
We won't have baby pictures for another month or more, but it was so exciting to hear the little baby that's growing inside of me!
The doctor said that we're healthy and that everything looks good for a smooth pregnancy so far.

Peter and I are still trying to decide whether we should rent or buy while we are in San Jose. There are so many things to consider. But we're blessed to have friends and family to support us during this exciting phase of life!
